Presidents Report

First and foremost, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the OLSC membership and their families.  Secondly, the Christmas party co-hosted by OLSC and the Swami's Club was an unqualified success (at least in my opinion).  Good food, good people and great music provided by the Mar Del's.  And to top off the evening, a surprise visit by old St. Nick who provided young and old with gifts to get the Christmas season off to a good start.  This first ever co-hosted event could not have happened without the efforts of Rick and Inda Cole who obtained the carnitas, rice, beans and tortillas for OLSC's share of the main course, Otis Sistrunk for obtaining the enchiladas and the Mar Del's for Swami's, Nacho Ojeda who was instrumental in arranging the visit from Santa, Mike Coleman and his BOD for reserving the Elk's Lodge for the gala event and George Eckhoff for delivering toy donations to Toys for Tots. Thanks to all of you and all those who contributed to the pot luck portion of the party buffet.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming Gathering of the Tribes (aka Doheny Contest) at Church in January.  Until then, hope everyone enjoys the holiday season with family and friends.

Aloha, Bill Jessee

Vice Presidents Report

I Hope all have had a Merry Christmas and I wish everyone a Happy New Year.

2010 was a good year for the Club and 2011 should be no different.  We start the New Year off with an opportunity for all to enjoy a weekend at Camp Pendleton’s “Church” and “The Cross” surf breaks while the DOHO “Gathering of the Tribes” event is on going.  The competition team will be hanging out at Competition Point that weekend and anyone can come up for a day(s) trip(s) and fun time who does not want to compete and enjoy surfing at San O, wtch the team compete, or trudge on up North of the competition to surf Middles, Lowers or Cottons (assuming a swell is present).  This is always a fun weekend with good food and fun times for all Club Members that want to brave the extended drive...don’t forget “The Dinner” Saturday night at our Camp Spots-all are welcome.

We’ll have to get some local north of the border surf adventures planned this year so anyone with ideas (SUP onto the Ranch?  A Day at North Garbage and other fine Points of the Loma?  Can Palos Verdes be fun-if you don’t mind rocks thrown at you or your vehicle?) let me know and we’ll see if we can get something organized.

Hope everyone takes the time to go visit the California Surf Museum in Oceanside and support our good friends over there.  Also this is an opportunity for all to gaze in wonder at the Coalition Trophy that will remain there for at least another year based upon the strength of our competition team.  Yeah OLSC!

See you all at the next meeting!

gretchrnHarrisTeam Captain's Report

Hello Everyone,
We have a large team headed to the Doheny Longboard Surfing Club's "Gathering of the Tribes" contest next month.  It will be a great event and a very fun weekend.  Our club members have secured 11 campsites and four cottages at Camp Pendleton for the weekend, so it will be a large gathering of OLSC members for the weekend.  Saturday night we will have a potluck BBQ
at the campsite, so please feel free to come down and join us for dinner. We will need club members to volunteer to help out with judging over the weekend.  The Doheny Club has asked us to provide at least four judges for the event.  If you are willing to do some judging the weekend of Jan 8-9th it would be greatly appreciated!  You can get onto the base by referencing one of the five sponsors:  George Eckhoff, Tony Altamirano, Warren Fox, Sean Bush or Will Brandstater.  You may need your insurance information, license and car registration to get on base. I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas, I will see you in the new year!
